 – Powerball Jackpot Jumps to $54 Million.  Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's Powerball drawing the jackpot grew to an estimated $54 million, with a cash option of $28.2 million.
Lottery winner enjoying life.  Greenwich, Connecticut resident Donald "Boo-boo" won $100,000 playing an instant lottery game at Greenwich Cigar and Stationery.
SEC Investigating Gtech in Brazil.  Gtech Holdings Corp. said Thursday that the Securities and Exchange Commission opened a formal investigation into the lottery operator's dealings in Brazil.

 – Kentucky Lottery sales set record last fiscal year.  Kentucky Lottery ticket sales for the fiscal year ending June 30 totaled a record $725.2 million, a 7.7 percent increase over the previous year, state lottery officials announced yesterday.

 – Lucky Iraq vet scratches way to lottery riches.  Just back from a tour of duty in Iraq, a Norwood, Massachusetts National Guardsman was welcomed home by Lady Luck - netting $140,000 a year for life from a state Lottery scratch ticket.
Tennessee lottery marks six-month anniversary.  The Tennessee Lottery celebrated its six-month anniversary this week, having raised more than enough money to pay for college scholarships for good students.  But the executives who run the lottery are still hearing criticism from legislators that they make too much money and get too many perks.

 – Tennessee Lottery revenues better than expected.  The Tennessee Education Lottery announced today it has topped its initial goal by roughly 40 percent.  Officials said it produced more than $123 million for education programs in the state after five months and 12 days.
Megabucks winner couldn’t believe her luck.  The winner of a $2.9 million Tri-State Megabucks jackpot said when she found out the numbers on her ticket matched those for the July 7 drawing she couldn’t believe she had really won.
NJ lottery director nominated for Commerce role.  New Jersey Lottery Commission executive director Virginia Bauer will be nominated today to run the troubled Commerce and Economic Growth Commission, according to six McGreevey administration and business sources.

 – California lottery struggles with tepid sales.  Though California and its schools are begging for cash, one of the state's supposed gold mines produces roughly half of what it should for education, analysts say.
Powerball jackpot increases to $21 million.  Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's Powerball drawing the jackpot grew to an estimated $21 million, with a cash option of $10.9 million.
 – Georgia lottery sales up.  Revenue from the Georgia Lottery increased more than $100 million in the year ending June 30 - the ninth sales record since the games began in 1993.
Iowa Lottery ’04 sales top $200 million.  The Iowa Lottery reported Wednesday that its sales surpassed the $200 million mark for the just completed fiscal year 2004, a 16 percent increase in revenues and the culmination of a three-year rise in profits for the state.

Penn. Lottery has record sales.  The Pennsylvania Lottery, the only state lottery to designate all its proceeds to programs that benefit older residents, had record sales of $2.35 billion in fiscal 2003-04, topping the old record of $2.13 billion, set in 2002-03, by $219 million or 10.3 percent.

NY Court Says Video Lottery Games Unconstitutional.  Video lottery games at New York State racetracks are illegal, a panel of state judges ruled on Wednesday, dealing a setback to Gov. George Pataki, who is counting on revenue from the terminals to help fund education.
 – $294 Million: Final Mega Millions Jackpot Calculated.  The winner of the largest lottery prize in Massachusetts state history remained anonymous yesterday as rumors swirled about the person's identity and state officials boosted the staggering jackpot by another $4 million.
 – Lottery winner jailed for 5 months.  A lottery winner who scooped a £9.7m (US$18 million) jackpot was yesterday jailed for five months after breaching a drugs testing and treatment order.

Police Chip In To Win Lottery.  Ten officers are chipping in $100 each to buy a total of 1,000 tickets for Friday's Mega Millions lottery drawing.
$290 million jackpot stirs mega-dreams.  Merchants expect last-minute rush for lottery tickets, as the Mega Millions jackpot is expected to top $290 million by the time the six numbers are drawn in Times Square at 11 p.m.
Virginia Mega Millions Madness.  Customers are flocking to the Red Apple Country Store in Stephens City, Virginia, hoping to be stroked with the same luck as Frederick County resident J.R. Triplett, who purchased the winning ticket for a $239 million drawing in February at the same store.
 – Record $290M jackpot spurs Megamadness.  People across New York had dollar signs in their eyes, as they lined up Thursday to buy their tickets and take their one-in-a-135-million chance at winning today's record Mega Millions $290 million jackpot.
Illinois Lottery Celebrates 30 Years With Birthday Bash.  In 1974, the Illinois Lottery sold its first ticket.  Thirty years and $12 billion in education contributions later, the Lottery celebrated a record sales year and a major anniversary with a 30th Anniversary Birthday Bash at the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago.
Tennessee lottery study criticized.  Tennessee State Senator Steve Cohen is criticizing the state’s lottery board saying an $85,000 independent study to develop a permanent employee pay plan is unnecessary and that more bonuses should not be awarded those who work for the corporation.
 – New Mexico Lottery on a Roll.  The New Mexico Lottery Authority reported Thursday it had a record $148 million in sales for the 12-month period ending June 30.

 – Lottery player cries foul after missing $1M prize.  Dennis Perry said he doesn't want to sound ungrateful after winning $10,000 in a Tennessee Lottery drawing last weekend, but the Fayetteville, Tenn., man said mistakes during the drawing might have cost him the $1 million top prize.
Tenn. delays spending lottery funds.  Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen said Wednesday that the spending of lottery dollars on early learning and after school programs won't occur until next year.
Scratch tickets are boon for Ohio Lottery.  Citing high growth in sales of instant games, the Ohio Lottery said Wednesday it earned $10 million more than projected this fiscal year, a slight bonus for schools down the road.
