Hodges scratches state's first lotto ticket.  Three years after being elected on a promise to bring a lottery to South Carolina, Gov. Jim Hodges scratched off the state's first ticket Monday.
Winners shrug at cash: What are the odds?.  An unscratched $1 million grand prize ticket from the Massachusetts Lottery's Fast Millions game had been collecting lint inside a backpack for nearly three years.

 – Pieces falling into place for lottery.  With the South Carolina lottery less than a month from its Jan. 7 launch, lottery officials are scrambling toward the finish.  After five months of slogging through the mechanics of creating a $300 million-a-year corporation, testy contract protests and its first lawsuit, the fun part is near, officials say.
Ohio to gamble on mega-lottery.  A decision on which game Ohio will hook up with - either Powerball or the Big Game - is expected by the end of the month, and tickets may go on sale as early as June.

Georgia Lottery Reaches $1 Billion in Sales.  "This is the earliest we have ever reached the $1 billion dollar sales mark in our eight-year history," announced Rebecca Paul president and CEO.
Ohio opens door for entry in multi-state lottery.  To stay in the black and out of the red, Gov. Bob Taft will sign a budget-balancing bill that raises taxes, uses the state savings account and tobacco settlement funds to pay for daily operations, and opens the door for Ohio to participate in a multi-state super lottery like the Big Game or Powerball.
Georgia Lottery Player Wins Twice in Two Days.  Susie Terry was thrilled to win $7,000 playing Lucky 7's.  The following morning, as she was heading to the Georgia Lottery Corporation's Dalton District Office to claim her Lucky 7's top prize, she picked up a Giant Jumbo Bucks ticket and won $150,000.
Lottery operators gear up.  As the Jan. 7 startup date nears, South Carolina retailers are trained on the lottery machines.
Andrew N.S. Glazer: Poker is here, for good or bad.  The availability of legal poker is a good news/bad news situation because while it is possible for a skilled player to win at the game in the long run, very few do.

 – Work Still The Ticket For Winners.  After posing for photographs and sipping champagne at Manhattan's 21 Club yesterday, Edwin and Rossana Berrios of Rego Park, New York received a lump sum check for $9,582,648 from New York Lottery officials.
Retailers gear up for lottery sales.  South Carolina retailers are anxious to begin selling lottery tickets.
Ohio closer to adding a multi-state lottery game.  Ohio would join a multi-state lottery and local governments would not lose state funding, under an agreement approved early Wednesday to balance the state budget.

 – U.S. Justice Dept. Gives Lukewarm Support to Goodlatte Bill.  Justice has "technical and other concerns" about Goodlatte's bill and another Internet gambling bill sponsored by Rep. Jim Leach, Republican-Iowa, and will reveal those "following additional interagency consultations."

Cherie Takes Lottery Ticket Case.  Cherie Blair is to take up the case of the couple who missed out on a £3m lottery jackpot because they lost their winning ticket.
Kildare couple in court over ticket mix-up.  A County Kildare couple have been granted a High Court injunction preventing the National Lottery from paying out half of Saturday night's Lotto jackpot.
Lottery ads allowed in North Dakota.  Radio and television stations in North Dakota will be allowed to air lottery advertisements, after reaching a settlement with the Federal Communications Commission.

 – Warsaw, VA man wins $150,000 Big Game prize.  Michael Chambers of Warsaw, Virginia came to the Lottery's headquarters office in Richmond to claim his $150,000 prize from the November 20, 2001 drawing of The Big Game.
Lawmakers Eye Web Gambling Law.  Critics of Internet gambling are hoping that a new bill will succeed where past efforts to ban the activity have failed.
Lottery Ticket Worth $29M Sold In Minnesota.  A Powerball ticket bought in Minnesota was the lone winner in Saturday's national drawing, and the tiny slip of paper is worth $29.4 million.
Ohio-Pa. lottery still not sure bet.  Though several hurdles still exist, a joint Ohio-Pennsylvania lottery game still may become a reality.
State to screen lotto sellers.  South Carolina plans to regulate lottery ticket sales better than the flawed video poker system.

Arlington, Virginia man wins $150,000 Big Game prize.  Thomas Carter of Arlington, Virginia came to the Lottery's northern Virginia regional office in Woodbridge to claim his $150,000 prize from the November 23, 2001 drawing of The Big Game.
