Powerball Winner Staying in U.S..  The Pakistani-born taxi driver who won the $55 million multistate Powerball lottery thought about taking his winnings back to Pakistan.  Then he thought again.
Lottery love lost in seven year itch.  Falling ticket sales have led to a dramatic plunge in profits for Camelot, apparently signalling the end of the UK's love affair with the National Lottery.
Lottery Refuses to Pay Portland Man.  The Oregon State Lottery is refusing to pay an $8 million jackpot to a Portland man who claims he holds the winning ticket.
Committee OKs plan to use lottery to pay anti-terrorism costs.  All or part of the $17 million that Illinois Gov. George Ryan is seeking for anti-terrorism measures could be raised through a series of special statewide lottery drawings proposed by a Chicago-area lawmaker.

 – Lottery panel OKs letting pawn shops sell tickets.  Pawn shops should not be barred from selling lottery tickets simply because of the nature of their business, the South Carolina Lottery Commission decided Monday.
$33 Million Jackpot Winner Going Home.  Cabbie Ihsan Khan is using some of his winnings in the multimillion-dollar Powerball lottery jackpot for a trip back to Pakistan.
Winner Of State Lottery Ticket Faces Week Deadline To Claim $2.1 Million.  There's a winning Washington state lottery ticket out there somewhere and its owner has until 5 p.m. Monday to turn it in for $2.1 million.
'Just Plain Fun!'.  Every advertisement for the S.C. lottery will feature this tag line: "Just Plain Fun!"  The lottery commission adopted the slogan Tuesday, after deciding that "Just Play'n Fun!" sent the wrong message because "Play'n" is not an actual word.

Lottery Has Some Unusual Applicants.  More than 3,000 businesses -- mainly grocery stores, gas stations and convenience stores -- have applied to sell lottery tickets, but there have been a few unusual names.
Beware Of Canadian Sweepstakes Scam.  Better Business Bureau President Ran Hoth said a sweepstakes scam, run out of Canada, has targeted southeastern Wisconsin -- and it cost one area family nearly $70,000 dollars.
Camelot fails to halt slide.  Figures out this week from Camelot are expected to show that the UK National Lottery operator has failed to arrest the decline in ticket sales.  The news will renew fears about whether the operator will be able to meet its pledge to raise £15 billion for good causes over the course of its new licence.
Officials hope 'Fate' ends slump in sales of state lottery tickets.  Nebraska state lottery officials are hoping that "Fate," a black-shirted, balding actor named Joe James of Chicago, who touts the benefits of gambling, new games and new interest in scratch games, will help stem the slowdown in state lottery gambling.

 – Leslie Nielsen Gets Lottery Gig.  Actor Leslie Nielsen has a new shtick - a gig with the Ohio Lottery.
Crews Begin Shooting Lottery Commercials.  People won't be able to buy a lottery ticket in South Carolina until Jan. 7, but the South Carolina lottery is already paying off for some Upstate residents.
Oklahoma voters may see another lottery plan.  Supporters of an Oklahoma state lottery to help education believe they can overcome historical voter opposition to gambling if they can get the proposal on a statewide election ballot.
Lawsuit Alleges Wheel of Fortune Slot Machines are Rigged.  When is a spin on the Wheel of Fortune not really a spin?  That's the question at the heart of a recent Michigan lawsuit, pitting a disillusioned slot machine player against the nation's biggest gaming equipment maker and two of the largest casino operators.
Measure diverts lottery profits.  With the Ohio Lottery riding a losing streak in delivering cash to classrooms, Gov. Bob Taft long has wanted to pump up profits for schools by adding Powerball or the Big Game.  However, not a single cent of the $41 million in estimated annual profits from Ohioans' wagers on a multi-state lottery game would find its way to public K-12 schools.

NJ Pick 3 drawing glitch.  The New Jersey Lottery today confirmed the winning Pick 3 numbers drawn at 7:56pm on Sunday, November 18 as 8-4-7.  During Sunday's live lottery drawing, the winning Pick 3 numbers were selected out of sequence, with drawing host Joe DeRose incorrectly announcing the winning numbers as 4-8-7.
Texas Lottery Jackpot Still Unclaimed.  The Texas Lottery Commission today said a ticket worth $13 million from the June 23rd drawing has yet to be claimed.  The ticket was purchased in Humble.

 – Ohio Lottery Drops $53,000 Ball.  The Ohio Lottery dropped the ball - literally - during a drawing and the mistake will cost more than $53,000.
Flames, Oilers make deal with lottery to raise money.  In an effort to combat a weak Canadian dollar and high player salaries, Alberta's two National Hockey League teams are turning to scratch-and-win lottery tickets for some extra revenue.

O'Brien, Lottery win over auditors.  Some 2-1/2 years after a scathing report revealed mismanagement and widespread security breaches at the Massachusetts State Lottery, a second independent audit will be released today detailing improvements in nearly every financial operation and security aspect of the once-beleaguered agency.
Spartanburg, S.C. Store Gets 1st Lottery License.  A Spartanburg newsstand has won a statewide lottery to be among the first named as a South Carolina lottery vendor.
Pipe-bomb family win the lottery.  Eamonn Morrison from Cloughmills, Co Antrim - who escaped injury when his home was pipe bombed in July and later lost his job - scooped £3.5m in Saturday's draw.
Agency Criticized for Urging Stores to Lobby for Lottery.  An angry gambling opponent said it was "outrageous" that the Ohio Lottery Commission urged its 9,200 contract outlets to lobby two key lawmakers in favor of joining a multistate lottery.

Green light to gambling revolution.  Britain's gaming laws are to be radically liberalized in the biggest shake-up in the industry for nearly 40 years.
Ohio Lottery Lobbied Lawmakers for Multi-State Game.  The Ohio Lottery Commission helped stack the deck in favor of a multistate lottery by mobilizing its statewide network of 9,200 sales agents to lobby a pair of key state lawmakers.

Ky. Ex-Con Sharing Lottery Winnings.  Just a few months ago, David Edwards was an ex-con who had lost his job, needed back surgery and had no idea what he would do when his unemployment checks ran out.  Then the unbelievable happened - he won $41 million in the Powerball lottery.
