NJ Lottery number same as doomed plane. The winning number for the New Jersey state Lottery Pick 3 game was the same as the flight number of the plane that crashed earlier in the day, and the payout was unusually low because of the high number of matches. The payout for an exact match -- 5-8-7 -- was just $16 Monday. On a typical day, the payout is $275, lottery officials said. American Airlines Flight 587 bound for the Dominican Republic crashed around 9:15 AM Monday in the Queens borough of New York City. In addition, the Monday New Jersey midday Pick 3 lottery drawing was a variation on the flight number: 5-7-8 (straight paid a low $81.50 because of the large number of matches).
