 – Terrorist Legislation Passes, Spares Net Gambling.  The U.S. House of Representatives yesterday passed HR 3004, more commonly known as The Financial Anti-Terrorism Act of 2001, but removed all references to Internet gambling from the final bill.  While net gambling was (quite logically) removed from the anti-terrorist bill, those who value their freedoms on the Internet need to be prepared to help in the fight against similar measures that will come before congress in the future.  The anti-Internet gambling forces have proven that they will employ every possible underhanded tactic they can to push through their personal agenda.  It really makes you wonder why those anti-Internet forces aren't spending their time in congress finding more important things to legislate.
Two firms make bids to run S.C. lotto.  Two companies have bid to run the S.C. lottery's most high-profile games, but a third firm bowed out over fears that the Jan. 7 deadline to launch the lottery is unrealistic.

Georgia Lottery Transfers Record First Quarter Amount to Education.  The Georgia Lottery Corporation transferred its fiscal year 2002 first quarter profits to the State Treasury's Lottery for Education Account in the amount of $167,915,000, the largest first quarter transfer in the history of the Georgia Lottery Corporation.

 – $26 million NJ Pick 6 winner claims prize.  The New Jersey State Lottery announced that Eleanor Alston from Tinton Falls, Monmouth County, New Jersey, has won the $26 million jackpot for the Pick 6 Lotto drawing held on September 24, 2001.
First-ever Lotto South winning ticket sold in Georgia.  A Lotto South ticket worth $11 million was sold in Georgia, lottery officials said Sunday.
Copperfield Says German Lottery Forecast No Trick.  American illusionist David Copperfield said Sunday he was bombarded by requests for tips on the winning numbers in Germany's national lottery Saturday night -- numbers he said he had predicted seven months ago.
Delaware Lottery Revenue on Upswing.  The Delaware Lottery added $204.6 million to the state's general fund last year, pushing lottery contributions to more than $1 billion over its 26-year history.
Con artists run scam as lottery winners.  A pair of con artists used a lottery scam to swindle a 67-year-old Modesto, CA woman out of $9,000, police reported.
Andrew N.S. Glazer: Double-up betting will cost you plenty.  Any system that is based on any pattern of increased bets, no matter how bizarre or impressively intricate it might seem, eventually runs into the same problem -- to wit, the long losing streak.

Talks to help senior citizens avoid fraud.  A winning lottery ticket.  An immigrant in need of help.  A way to turn $2,500 quickly into $10,000.  It sounds too good to be true.  And it is - as one Arlington resident leaving a discount store discovered last year.
Companies look to cash in on lottery.  About 60 small business owners were looking for opportunities with the South Carolina lottery Wednesday at a forum hosted by the S.C. lottery at Midlands Technical College's Airport Campus.
Ad agencies protest S.C. lottery contract.  Two advertising agencies are protesting the awarding of the $7.5 million state lottery advertising contract to Greenville's Erwin-Penland Inc.

 – The Big Game maintains top jackpot honors.  With no jackpot winner in last night's drawing, The Big Game's $47 million jackpot held the honors of top lottery jackpot in the U.S. -- almost $20 million higher than the second-largest jackpot (Connecticut, $17.7 million).
School buys 700 iBooks for wireless classroom project.  Georgia Gov. Roy Barnes recently dropped by Rossville Middle School to check out its implementation of the Georgia Wireless Classroom Project.  Rossville purchased 700 iBooks, equipping every student and teacher with one of the Apple laptops.  The Georgia Wireless Classroom Project is supported by US$10 million over three years from lottery funds.
Texas lottery rebounds after attacks slow sales.  Texas lottery sales have bounced back after a drop-off following the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, but are down more than 9 percent for the first five weeks of the new fiscal year, lottery officials said Tuesday.

$7 Million Florida Lotto Ticket Set to Expire.  The Florida Lottery is launching its first-ever search for a winner of an unclaimed Florida Lotto ticket for an estimated $7 million.
Kentucky Lottery Corp. reports record first-quarter revenue.  The Kentucky Lottery Corp. reported its highest-ever sales in the first quarter of fiscal 2002, with sales reaching $175.3 million for the three-month period.
