 – Hoosier Lottery insists computers are better than ball drawings.  Still smarting from the sting of a massive security scandal, Indiana Lottery officials are making a claim that computerized drawings actually improve security over traditional lottery drawings conducted with a mechanical ball machine.
 – Hoosier Lottery increases funds for security.  For months, Indiana Lottery officials have been trying to repair the damage done when William C. Foreman, a former lottery investigator, was accused in November of obtaining insider information to help friends get a $1 million scratch-off ticket.

 – N.M. Lottery posts second-best year.  New Mexico legislators were told today that strong sales of in-state games helped drive the New Mexico Lottery to its second-best year of sales.
 – Pennsylvania lottery machines knocked out by lightning.  A lightning strike at a control center put more than two-thirds of the terminals selling Pennsylvania lottery tickets out of commission for almost four hours Wednesday evening, which officials said would certainly mean reduced sales.
 – Schwarzenegger to replace Calif. lottery director.  California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's aides said Tuesday that he is dumping troubleshooter Chon Gutierrez, the acting lottery director who engineered California's participation with the Mega Millions multi-state lottery game, and then sent an adviser to spy on Democrats who are trying to halt ticket sales.
 – Lottery scores triple-zeros twice in one day.  Missouri Lottery players with an affinity for the number zero won big Wednesday, when the winning Pick 3 numbers in both the afternoon and evening drawings were 0-0-0.

 – Power failure shuts down Wisconsin lottery sales.  A computer system outage prevented Wisconsin lottery players from purchasing tickets or validating winning tickets for such games as Powerball or Pick 3 for about three hours, a state Department of Revenue spokeswoman says.

 – Texas Lottery changes won't come quickly.  Lottery players who feel hoodwinked by the Texas Lottery Commission will have to wait another month before the agency changes rules that determine how much money Lotto Texas winners are paid.
 – More Texas Lottery trouble: Auditor's warning erased from report.  Texas Lottery executives were warned in a draft audit last winter that their decision to gut the agency's security force and fire most of its officers threatened the lottery's security and integrity, but lottery officials never disclosed those findings publicly.
 – Judge Rejects Men's Claim To $100K Lottery Prize.  An administrative law judge has rejected a claim by two Indiana men that they were the rightful owners of a $100,000 lottery ticket someone else retrieved from a restaurant trash can.

 – Texas lottery director stands firm amid attacks.  Reagan Greer, the Texas Lottery Commission's embattled executive director who signed off on four inflated Lotto jackpots, shows no sign he will cave in to pressure and resign.
 – Clever lottery players all win on handshake agreement.  In a classic case of "a bird in the hand," four of the five finalists competing in a $2 million Michigan lottery drawing decided to hedge their bets by agreeing to split the winnings no matter whose ticket was drawn.

 – Man sues Mass. Lottery for $1 million prize mistake.  A Rhode Island man filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit this week against the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission and State Treasurer Tim Cahill seeking the $1 million he was denied because of his purported misinterpretation of how the prizes are awarded.
 – All Kentucky lottery money to fund education.  Finally fulfilling the promise made 17 years ago to voters who approved a state lottery, all of the Kentucky Lottery's revenue will go directly to education beginning today — specifically to fund college scholarships.
 – Texas Lottery executive had no hint before firing.  Weighing his words carefully when asked if he was the fall guy in the growing scandal over inflated Texas Lotto jackpots, Lee Deviney said only that his dismissal last month from the Texas Lottery Commission came with no prior warning.
 – Georgia lottery bill would protect education funds.  Ralph Reed, a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, on Thursday endorsed Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue's call for a state constitutional amendment that would prevent lottery money from being used for anything except HOPE college scholarships, pre-kindergarten classes and building up financial reserves.
