Acuity Gets Georgia Lottery's Web Work.  Acuity said it has been selected by the Georgia Lottery Corp. to redevelop its web site, which is due to launch in June.
Are You Holding The Winning Megabucks Ticket?.  Someone won the $18.2 million jackpot Monday in the Oregon Lottery's Megabucks lotto game.
Iowa Lottery may go independent.  The Iowa Lottery would become a nonprofit authority instead of a state agency, with broad powers to control its own budget, under legislation that is headed to the governor's desk.

S.C. Democrat questions education lottery.  A Democratic senator who originally supported the South Carolina lottery is threatening to propose action to repeal it.
Tenn. lottery setup bill passed in house subcommittee.  Freshmen entering college this fall would be excluded from applying for Tennessee lottery-funded scholarships under legislation approved Monday by a House subcommittee.  More: House adopts 'flow motion'.
Man faces 50 years in scam.  A Indiana man accused of scamming several hundred dollars from the Hoosier Lottery faces up to 50 years in prison -- a penalty similar to that for armed robbery or attempted murder.

 – Powerball Jackpot Grows To $67 Million.  There were no Powerball jackpot winners Saturday but 400,167 players across the nation won a total of more than $3.4 million in prizes in America's Game.  Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot grew to an estimated $67 million, with a cash option of $37 million.  Six players from Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri (2), and Rhode Island correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000.  Players purchased more than 16 million tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.
Editorial: Delaying vote may kill lottery.  A statewide lottery, says Gov. Brad Henry, is the answer to Oklahoma's education funding woes, but it will not come this year and, indeed, won't even go to a vote of the people until November 2004.
San Diego man tops $2 million on lottery show.  A San Diego writer who won more than $2 million on the California Lottery's television show Saturday said he plans to use the money to travel and open a business.
Mega Millions ticket expires.  A $175,000 lottery ticket purchased in Gainesville, Virginia expired last week.
Camelot pledges to halt lottery decline.  Camelot, the group that operates the UK National Lottery, will next month publicly commit itself to halting the decline in lottery sales with a pledge to return to growth within the next 18 months.
Powerball grosses $2M so far in V.I..  Encouraged by the national organization running the Powerball game, Austin Andrews, executive director of the Virgin Islands Lottery, provided detailed gross sales figures on Powerball.

 – Tenn. Senate OKs bill to set up state lottery.  The state Senate on Wednesday completed its work on lottery legislation by passing the bill that would set up the games in Tennessee.  More:

Lottery jackpot reduced because of child support debt.  A South Carolina won $100,000 in a Carolina 5 drawing last month, but had to pay back $32,000 for overdue child support payments for his two children, the state Social Services Department said Wednesday.
Nick Perry, TV personality and lottery fixer, dies.  Nick Perry, a longtime broadcaster who became infamous for his role in fixing the Pennsylvania Lottery's Daily Number drawing nearly 23 years ago, has died.
Gaming foes join fight in Juneau.  Religious figures are marching into the conflict over whether Alaska should start a lottery and video gambling.
9/11 widow from Rumson to head New Jersey Lottery.  Ginny Bauer, a Rumson activist who fought for federal income tax relief for the families of victims of the Sept 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, was named yesterday as the acting executive director of the New Jersey Lottery.

 – N.D. accepted into Powerball group.  North Dakota has been accepted into the Powerball lottery group, which will allow the state to eventually offer the game, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem said Tuesday.
2 charged with Lotto winner's stabbing.  New details about the stabbing of a $25 million Lotto winner from Brighton, New York were made public Tuesday after the father and son charged in the crime were arraigned.
Florida woman claims $21 million Lotto prize.  A Lake Placid, Florida woman, the sole winner of the $21 million Lotto jackpot from the April 5 drawing, claimed her prize Tuesday.

Cab driver wins £14m in the lottery.  A taxi driver from Newcastle has won more than £14m on the National Lottery, organisers Camelot announced on Tuesday.
Third Time Is the Charm for Lottery.  What may well be the wildest Western account review ever has taken another wacky turn as the California Lottery Commission has asked advertising agencies to compete for the lucrative assignment for the third time in 18 months.

 – Multistate lotteries woo Texas.  The Legislature has yet to approve the idea, but the two major multistate lotteries are deep into the competition to sign up Texas for the next step in luring gambling dollars out of Texans' pockets.
Powerball Jackpot Grows to $51 Million.  There were no Powerball jackpot winners Saturday but 344,822 players across the nation won a total of more than $3.8 million in prizes in America's Game.  Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot grew to an estimated $51 million, with a cash option of $27.8 million.  Six players from Missouri, Oregon, Pennsylvania (2), and West Virginia correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000.  Players purchased almost 13 million tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.
Compromise may shape final lottery.  Legislation to create a Tennessee lottery goes before the full Senate today, but there is still a long way to go before the first ticket is sold.  More: Lottery bill vote possible.
Lottery Considers Changing Its Pitch.  The Connecticut Lottery Corp. spent more than $350,000 and months of research planning for a new computerized instant scratch game - but officials apparently never gave serious thought to whether the game would entice children.
Maryland Lottery will pay bridge toll for one night.  The Maryland Lottery will pay Bay Bridge users' tolls one Friday night in June as part of a new corporate sponsorship program, the Maryland Transportation Authority announced.
Louisiana lottery tickets mistakenly sold for drawing that won't take place.  About 5,000 Louisiana lottery tickets were mistakenly sold for a Sunday drawing that did not take place, the Louisiana Lottery Corporation said.

$44 Million Powerball Jackpot Up For Grabs.  There were no Powerball jackpot winners Wednesday but 283,498 players across the nation won a total of more than $2.3 million in prizes.  Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's drawing the jackpot grew to an estimated $44 million, with a cash option of $24 million.  Three players from Louisiana and Missouri (2) correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000.  Players purchased more than 12 million tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.
Family Wins Over $5 Million Playing Lotto South.  When Nayna Parikh learned that the winning ticket for last Wednesday's (4/9) Lotto South drawing was purchased in Dublin, GA she remembered she had a Lotto South ticket in her purse and had yet to check her numbers.  Two days later Mrs. Parikh arrived at the Georgia Lottery headquarters to receive her cash option prize of $5,194,805 before taxes.

Ohio Lottery Winner Has Weeks Left To Claim Jackpot.  Speculation is rampant in the Perry County village of Crooksville about who bought an Ohio Super Lotto ticket worth $14 million that so far has gone unclaimed.
Texas Lottery extends deal with Interlott.  Interlott Technologies Inc. said it has landed a contract extension with the Texas Lottery Commission.
Pastor hits million-dollar 'Win For Life' lottery.  The pastor of a church in northern New York has become just the second priest to win a major prize since the state Lottery began more than 35 years ago.  More: Priest a Lottery millionnaire.
Texas Lottery Winners Pay More Than $101 Million To Uncle Sam In 2002 Tax Year.  Following applicable tax laws, the Texas Lottery Commission withheld from prize winners more than $101 million in the 2002 tax year.
Alaska bill would allow Powerball.  Legislation is moving in the state House to expand Alaska gambling, now limited mainly to bingo and pull-tabs, to provide for a lottery and electronic games.

 – Tenn. Senate committee OKs lottery bill.  The Tennessee Senate Finance Committee approved the scholarship legislation and one that implements the lottery, setting up both bills for possible votes in the full Senate on Monday, said state Sen. Steve Cohen, the bills' sponsor.  More:

OK Lottery Vote May Not Happen Until 2004.  It's possible a vote on an Oklahoma education lottery might not happen until next year, Gov. Brad Henry said Monday.
Spurned boyfriend closer to winning lottery case.  In 2001, Gilberto Soto filed a lawsuit against his former live-in girlfriend, claiming Lydia Santana reneged on her promise to share the $11.7 million jackpot they had won the year before.
Expanded keno means millions for state - as well as for out-of-state contractor.  A proposal to expand the Washington State Lottery's Keno game to every four minutes could generate at least $28 million in tax revenue.
Lottery provides free calling cards for troops.  The West Virginia Lottery last week sent 1,000 20-minute calling cards to the West Virginia National Guard for distribution to soldiers, Lottery Director John Musgrave said.

Attorney general says Tenn. lottery 'pork' unconstitutional.  Tennessee Attorney General Paul Summers issued an opinion today that said a so-called "pork" amendment to legislation creating a state lottery is unconstitutional.
Lotteries Spread, But Policy Jackpots Elusive.  Lotto fever is catching among states seeking to cash in on the popularity of this form of gambling and bolster near-empty coffers, but these politically popular games of chance don't always perform as advertised for programs earmarked for funds.

 – Lottery giant GTECH stays rooted in R.I..  In the end, the fact that Rhode Island was ready to make a deal and Massachusetts wasn't sealed the bargain to keep lottery giant GTECH's world corporate headquarters and its approximately 1,000 jobs here in the Ocean State for decades to come, according to its president and CEO, W. Bruce Turner.
Selling the NY Lottery.  John Ryan from Local 6661 is one of many marketing reps on the road promoting the New York lottery.  He claims it's the best job in state government and he's been doing it for the past three years.
Europe gambling on mobile wagering.  Europeans now can satisfy their gambling urges on the spot — with their cellphones.
One winner in Florida Lotto drawing.  One ticket matched all six Florida Lotto numbers drawn Saturday to win an estimated $6 million jackpot, lottery officials said Sunday.  The winning ticket was sold in Wildwood.  A total of 255 tickets matched five numbers to win $1,696.50; 10,047 tickets matched four numbers for $35; and 150,373 tickets matched three numbers for $3.50.
Powerball Jackpot Reaches $37 Million.  There were no Powerball jackpot winners Saturday but 311,328 players across the nation won a total of more than $3.1 million in prizes.  Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $37 million, with a cash option of $20 million.  Three players from Minnesota, New Hampshire, and South Carolina correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. Players purchased almost 13 million tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.
Talks on key bills this week help decide shape of lottery to come.  This week is shaping up as a watershed for Tennessee's effort to create a state lottery and the scholarship and educational programs a lottery would fund.
CA lottery winner opts for lump-sum.  Gene Gengler is the latest California SuperLotto Plus winner, and chose the lump-sum cash option.
MN Lottery Director challenges lottery profit study.  Minnesota Lottery Director George Andersen on Friday angrily challenged an environmental group's study that concluded the state receives significantly less revenue from lottery ticket sales than do other like-sized states.

AG opinion says lottery tickets may be sold.  Selling state lottery tickets before lawmakers agree on how to spend the proceeds would not violate the Tennessee Constitution, according to an attorney general's opinion.
Ohio Lottery headed for big loss.  The Mega Millions multistate game -- added last May to the Ohio Lottery's mix -- has failed to pay off for schools.  More: Mega Millions profits fall short of expectations.
Divorced couple to split $9 million lottery prize.  A divorced couple will have to evenly split a $9 million Georgia lottery prize, though the ex-wife wants more, the S.C. Supreme Court said this week.
Mich. lottery czar is named.  Ex-Sen. Gary Peters, who ran unsuccessfully last year for governor and attorney general, was named Wednesday by Gov. Jennifer Granholm as Michigan lottery commissioner.
Disputed jackpot goes to the ticket buyer.  An Arkansas judge has thrown out a lawsuit over whether the winnings from a jackpot-winning lottery ticket should be split.
GTECH stock jumps after lottery operator renews large contract.  Shares of GTECH Holdings Corp. jumped Wednesday after the company announced it renewed an agreement to run Brazil's lottery system, one of its largest contracts.

Lottery bets might cost man his freedom.  For years Patrick Murray gambled on Ohio lottery tickets, betting he could win big, lottery officials said.  Yesterday, he admitted he had lost big, but did not have the cash to cover the $181,012 in checks he wrote in November to pay for Pick 3 tickets at three stores in Lake County.
Lottery plan would offer smaller scholarships.  Lottery-funded scholarships would drop to $3,000 from $4,000 except for the state's poorest and brightest students and $25 million in lottery proceeds would be set aside for early childhood development under drastically revamped legislation submitted yesterday by the chief House sponsor of Tennessee's lottery.
Judge puts hold on planned lottery move.  The West Virginia Lottery Commission's move to Putnam County is temporarily on hold after a Kanawha County judge decided, among other things, that the relocation could harm Charleston and the county.
IL may put license plate numbers up for bid.  Under a proposal pending in the Illinois General Assembly, license plate numbers ending in "00" would be placed in a lottery, in which players could purchase instant win tickets at Illinois lottery outlets.
Powerball winners enjoy money in different ways.  34 Powerball winners, most of them employees of Minnesota Rubber in Watertown, shared a $101 million jackpot with an Indiana man, and went about spending their money in different ways.

Shops lose licenses for lottery.  The Ohio Lottery Commission has revoked the licenses of two Lake County stores that issued Pick 3 tickets on credit to a Wickliffe man during a $1.5 million gambling binge last year.

Florida Lotto jackpot rolls over to $21 million.  No ticket matched all six Florida Lotto numbers, meaning Saturday's jackpot will be worth an estimated $21 million, lottery officials said Thursday.  A total of 89 tickets matched five numbers to win $5,215.50; 5,318 tickets matched four numbers for $70.50; and 108,286 tickets matched three numbers for $4.50.

 – State lottery is megajackpot.  New York lottery sales totaled $5.4 billion in the last fiscal year, which ended Monday, making it the most successful lottery in U.S. history.
Lottery funds to repair older school buses.  South Carolina Education Superintendent Inez Tenenbaum said Wednesday she plans to use $10 million in lottery funds earmarked for new school buses to repair older vehicles in the state's fleet.
Plan for lottery money survives.  A controversial amendment allowing lawmakers to distribute unclaimed Tennessee lottery winnings in their districts survived a House committee vote Wednesday.
Texas legislators try to build support for multi-state lottery.  Bills have been offered to allow Texas to join a multi-state lottery like Powerball or Mega Millions.
Who buys lottery tickets?.  Research from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLGC) on the demographics of lottery players shows that lotteries are highly popular with adults from every walk of life.

Virginia man claims $62.4 million Powerball jackpot.  Hobert Parnell, 50, of Rocky Gap, Va., blinked nervously behind wire-rimmed glasses as he stood in the spotlights to accept an oversized check for $62.4 million.  He has chosen the cash option, which means he will receive $24,534,249 after taxes.
Fight looming over Tenn. lottery.  Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen said Tuesday he will seek changes to lottery legislation that - among other things - would tie lottery scholarship awards to annual revenue estimates, rather than fixing a set figure.  More:
