 – Online keno begins in Missouri.  A little more of Sin City came to the Show-Me State Tuesday, as the Missouri Lottery will rolled out its newest game -- online keno, modeled on the high-speed Las Vegas version.
Penn. set to begin Powerball sales.  Powerball tickets will go on sale in Pennsylvania starting June 27, with the first drawing on June 29.
N.C. Lottery moves House toward vote.  With North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley proposing a budget that spends $250 million from a lottery that doesn't yet exist, House Speaker Jim Black now says he will push House members to make up their minds soon about a lottery.
Can Tennessee cash in on Georgia's lottery model?.  With the Tennessee lottery vote still months away, activists on both sides of the question are working diligently.  Proponents of the lottery are betting on education as their best means of getting a lottery established in the state.

Relaunched Lottery records lowest takings.  Full-year results published today for the UK National Lottery are expected to show a fall in sales for the fourth year running.  But Camelot executives said the decline had begun to taper off in the second half of the year, prompting predictions that the National Lottery would increase weekly sales by March next year.

Sunday MI lottery drawings studied.  Faced with a money crunch expected to last at least through 2004, Michigan lawmakers and budget officials are eyeing a $28 million to $32 million jackpot that they believe would flow into Michigan's school-aid account if they could finally legalize Sunday lottery drawings.
Texas lottery celebrates 10 years this week.  The Texas Lottery celebrates 10 years of existence Wednesday after a decade of ups and downs as Texans scratched, quick picked and two-stepped in hopes of winning the latest lottery prize.

 – Winning mayor donates entire lottery jackpot to B.C. town.  When people win lotteries, most of them: (a) put the money in the bank, (b) buy something grand, or (c) tell the boss to take their job and shove it.  No one does what small-town Mayor Libby Nelson did.
New Yorker Wins Poker World Series.  The 10 of clubs gave a young Englishman a flush, but it gave a computer systems analyst from New York a full house — and a $2 million victory in the 33rd World Series of Poker.
Lottery Bill Has Something For Everyone.  In the lottery spending plan approved Thursday night by the South Carolina General Assembly, the biggest chunk of money will go toward college scholarships.
Tennesseans will play lottery regardless if ballot measure passes.  If opponents of a Tennessee lottery intend for their votes on Nov. 5 to stop anybody from gambling, A.J. Notaro wants to set them straight.  Notaro, a retired trucker who lives in Chattanooga, is a regular lottery player at a Flintstone, Ga., store just down the street from his house.
North Carolina weighs establishment of lottery.  The N.C. state House is expected to consider a lottery within the first two weeks of the upcoming legislative session, House Speaker Jim Black said Wednesday.

Speaker to press for action on lottery.  A day after Gov. Mike Easley offered a budget that would spend $250 million in proceeds from a lottery that doesn't exist, House Speaker Jim Black said yesterday that he will push legislators to decide on a lottery soon after they return to Raleigh next week.  More: N.C. Assembly to take up lottery issue quickly.
£3.4M lottery prize claimed.  Yesterday Camelot [the operator of the UK National Lottery] confirmed that as a result of the publicity surrounding an unclaimed lottery prize, somebody had come forward and claimed the cash.
Powerball is coming to the US Virgin Islands.  V.I. officials are touting Powerball's impending arrival as a force for attracting new lottery players, both residents and visitors -- and thereby boosting government revenues.

 – UK Lottery Jackpot Still Unclaimed.  A jackpot ticket for the National Lottery's 656th draw on Saturday, April 6, was bought in Derby, or south Derbyshire, but the £3.4 million (US$5 million) prize has yet to be claimed.
Easley's budget utilizes lottery, more local funds.  A budget proposal issued Monday by North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley would rely on transfers of highway money totaling $210 million and the local reimbursements and $250 million in lottery proceeds — even though a lottery doesn't yet exist.
Lottery may pay for Olympics in Canada.  Canadian Heritage minister Sheila Copps said Friday that the federal and British Columbia governments are working on a national lottery to help fund the 2010 Winter Olympic Games – if the Vancouver/Whistler bid wins.
Michigan Resident Wins First $175,000 Mega Millions Prize.  Mee-Ling Paul of Ann Arbor, Michigan matched the first five numbers drawn in the inaugural Mega Millions drawing, held on May 17, 2002, to win a $175,000 prize.

 – Powerball Set To Start in S.C. Oct. 6.  The South Carolina lottery plans to begin selling tickets for Powerball, the multi-state lottery game, on Oct. 6.  Lottery commissioners said that the plans won't be official until Thursday, the deadline for state lawmakers to stop them.
Georgia's lottery provides scholarships for seniors.  For most high school seniors, spring is a time for the prom, parties and traditional end-of-school slacking.  But in Georgia, where the lottery-funded HOPE scholarship program offers B students free tuition at state colleges, more seniors are working all the way until graduation because one bad grade could cost them thousands of dollars.

Programmer recalls first lottery computer.  People sometimes ask John Holder for tips on playing the state lottery.  After all, he designed the computer system for Michigan's first lottery.
UK Lotto unveils Internet strategy.  The UK's National Lottery has launched its new Web site as the initial stage of its £45 million interactive strategy.  The web site is currently just a "shop window" for the recently-rebranded lottery, but over the next few months the site will feature interactive lottery games, and the ability to buy tickets online.
Andrew N.S. Glazer: Speed of play can prove costly.  Answers the question, "it is best to play blackjack alone at a table and to play two hands at a time?"  If ever there were a gambling question whose answer was "it depends," this one is it, and the variables offer important information on all kinds of casino games.

 – Illinois Big Game Winner Claims $110 Million.  Pedro Sotomil, representing the PFK Family Partnership, came forward Friday to claim their portion of the April 16, $331 million Big Game jackpot.  Two other winners, one in Georgia and New Jersey, have already claimed their prizes.
Alabama boosts lottery sales.  Alabamians spent at least $98.55 million on Georgia lottery tickets in 2001, according to estimates from that state’s lottery officials.
Opinions divided on Alabama lottery.  A survey of Alabamans shows a split of opinion on Gov. Don Siegelman's proposal to revive a state lottery as a means of funding public education.
Quebec winners get share of $37.8M.  The winnings aren't yet burning a hole in their pockets, but four lucky winners of Friday's record-breaking $37.8 million Lotto Super 7 draw said they plan to spend some of their windfall by ordering shiny Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
