S.C. May Join Multistate Lottery Games.  South Carolina commissioners approved regulations for the games that include participation in multistate games like The Big Game and Powerball that have larger jackpots.

 – Michigan Resident Brings Home $150,000 Big Game Prize.  Carol Silverberg of Plymouth, Michigan was shocked and excited to learn she had matched the first five numbers in the October 23 Big Game drawing to win a $150,000 prize.
S.C. lottery ad contract awarded.  Newman Saylor & Gregory went from third-place finisher to lottery winner Wednesday, as the Columbia advertising firm was awarded the contract to market the South Carolina games.
News media suit against S.C. lottery settled.  The State newspaper and three other news outlets have settled their lawsuit against the state Materials Management Office and the South Carolina lottery.

 – P.A. State Lottery could run out of money in 2003.  The Pennsylvania Lottery will run out of money in two years unless the state overhauls the senior citizens' programs it supports, a Pittsburgh newspaper reported yesterday based on a state report.
Woman gets 14 years for lottery scam.  In one of the largest individual fraud cases in Lane County [Oregon] history, 24-year-old Shannon Marie Nissen of Eugene was sentenced Monday to 14 years in prison for lying to a circle of close family friends to steal $1.5 million that she spent for an extravagant lifestyle and gambling.
Decision on S.C. lottery ad firm expected.  The South Carolina lottery should have its long-awaited advertising partner by the end of today, after all appeals were dropped Tuesday in an important settlement for the lottery.
Powerball good bet for Colorado, so far.  Colorado is expected to collect more money from state-sponsored gambling this fiscal year than ever before, thanks to the start-up of Powerball.

New Jersey adds midday drawings.  The New Jersey State Lottery Monday announced that Pick 3 and Pick 4 midday drawings will debut on Monday, November 12.
Lottery good causes fund tops £1bn.  The UK National Lottery's good causes fund has broken the £1bn barrier with the purchase of a Scottish island for its residents.
Triples drawn in PA again, ninth time this year.  The total payout for The Pennsylvania Daily Number 9-9-9 drawn Friday, November 2, 2001, of $9,626,125 represents approximately 6.4 times or $7.7 million above the amount players wagered.  There were 38,671 players who chose the winning numbers.  Triple 9s have hit a total of seven times since The Daily Number drawing began in March 1977.  The last time 9-9-9 was drawn was August 13, 1989.  The last time any triples hit was October 22, 2001, that number being 0-0-0.  Friday night's drawing of triple 9s also marks the ninth time triples have been drawn in the The Daily Number this calendar year, tying 1995 for the record number of times triples were drawn in a calendar year.  The total payout to winners for triples drawn in The Daily Number in 2001 is $66,693,780.
On January 7, the politics of the lottery in North Carolina may begin to shift.  When South Carolina businesses begin offering lottery tickets for sale in two months, the pressure may intensify on North Carolina legislators to take up and pass lottery legislation if they haven't done so already, analysts say.  Opinion: Lottery Squeeze

 – N.C. state superintendent opposes lottery - softly.  Opposing the state Governor, North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction Mike Ward opposes bringing a lottery to the state, even though schools could use $400 million a year.
Trump grumbles as N.Y. Gov. rolls the dice and passes gambling bill.  New York Gov. Pataki yesterday signed a sweeping new law expanding gambling - as Donald Trump warned the measure would turn New York into "a juggernaut for casinos."
 – N.Y. Gambling Plan Becomes Law.  The largest gambling expansion plan in New York history, which includes a provision to join the multi-state Powerball game, was signed into law Wednesday, a move supporters said should help replace revenue lost with the World Trade Center.
Erwin-Penland Appeals To Keep S.C. Lottery Ad Contract.  Greenville based Erwin-Penland Inc. filed an appeal Wednesday to try and keep the contract to do the advertising for the South Carolina lottery.
U.S. House Committee Passes Anti-Internet Gaming Bill.  A misguided effort to limit gambling over the Internet by blocking the use of credit cards for payment won approval from a congressional panel Wednesday.

 – Two friends from Pennsylvania win $150,000 Big Game prize.  "Dave and Harry's Betting Club" lottery club of Glenshaw, Pennsylvania drove all the way to Michigan to buy a ticket for the August 28 Big Game drawing.
Internet gaming under attack again.  Rep. Robert Goodlatte, R-Va., Tuesday said that he would introduce a bill on Thursday that targets Internet gaming.  As we've written in the past, this sort of legislation is bad news for those who value their freedom.  The bills being legislated by some congressmen in Washington that limit your online activities and choices are dangerous and serve the personal agendas of certain individuals.  Call and/or write your representatives in the House and Senate and voice your opposition to any bill that would limit Internet gaming, or any of your other online freedoms.
Vermont Candidate Supports Powerball.  Republican Jim Douglas, should he win the Governor's race in Vermont, will support bringing Powerball to the state.
