Virginia will be changing its lotto on September 17 in order to increase the size of its jackpot. Although it is keeping up with other lotteries that are undergoing similar restructuring, it's hard to believe the small prize for picking 5 out of 6 numbers -- about $1,500. (Compare this with The Big Game, which awards $150,000 for the same prize level.)

A former Texas insurance commissioner who went to prison in the 1970s for a pension fund scam that rocked state government stepped forward Monday to claim the $60 million Texas Lottery jackpot.The China Lottery is doing pretty well. You may recall a story back on September 1 about China starting a national lottery (which technically is illegal there). People have been lining up to buy tickets, and in the first week that tickets were offered, 15 million tickets were sold.Online gambling continues to grow. The New Jersey Lottery has introduced several changes that go into effect with today's drawing. In addition, for two Sundays (September 10 and 17) many local New Jersey newspapers include coupons for a buy two get one free ticket offer.
