Today, Nita Colla of San Francisco claimed the largest jackpot ever awarded to an individual by the California lottery -- $88 million. Mrs. Colla elected to take the winnings in one lump sum, which amounts to a staggering $42,898,388 before taxes.
Publishers Clearing House has reached a comprehensive agreement with 23 state Attorneys Gereral, resolving disputes over the company's misleading promotions. Keeping in mind that the linked story is a press release published by PCH, you'll have to take their positive spin with a grain of salt.

Here's a story about a lucky Michigan man who won a $150,000 prize in the August 11 Big Game drawing. Included in the story is the location where the winning ticket was purchased. As a side note, it seems that all of these winners I read about find out that they're winners by going back to the store, or by reading a newspaper, etc. I'm still waiting for the first story that quotes the winner saying that he found the winning numbers on the internet at BigGamelottery.com!

Sandbox.com just announced the largest free lottery available online. Also unique to the new $100 million daily lottery is that non-internet users can play by phone. Of course, you need to read the fine print to find out that the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 2.4 billion.
