 – Internet Betting Plan Is Off the Vegas Table.  Vegasone.com, which had promised Las Vegas City Hall more than a billion dollars to join its Internet gambling venture, withdrew its offer but vows to return.
 – Brit Bookies Glued to U.S. Election.  The British have placed bets totaling $350,000 on the outcome of the U.S. elections.  Not surprisingly, both candidates have been pretty evenly backed, with Bush just ahead.
 – The Big Game is now the second-largest jackpot in the nation.  The top 5 are:

 – Vegas Officials May Roll the Dice on Online Casino. Las Vegas is considering selling rights to its name to an offshore Internet betting firm.  Critics fear legal and ethical problems, and hometown gambling concerns object.
For those who use a Netscape browser, the new version 6 is now available and can be downloaded for free.  (Actually, free is a relative term, since it takes a while to remove all the annoying desktop icons and auto-start programs that are deposited on your computer.)  Anyway, the new version does a better job of displaying this web site than previous Netscape browsers, although still not quite as good as Internet Explorer.
 – There was no jackpot winner in the Tuesday drawing, but 3 lucky players matched the first five numbers for a $150,000 prize: 1 in Georgia, 1 in Illinois, and 1 in Michigan.  See the Winning Combinations page for the complete rundown of winners by prize category.

 – On October 17th, one Big Game ticket worth $39 million was sold in New Jersey.  It turns out that the lucky winner was actually a lottery group called Lucky Lady LLC.  Click over to the story, which among other things, highlights the actual lump-sum cash winnings.  You'll notice the fact that New Jersey does not take any state income tax on lottery winnings -- unlike the other six Big Game states.
 – As we reported last night, South Carolina voters have spoken, and the state will have a state-run lottery.  On the flip side, Arkansas voters have rejected a similar proposal that would set up a state lottery and allow casinos and charity bingo.

 – A Cowboy's Comeback, Hollywood Style - Washington Post (Nov 7, 2000)
 – Couple Claims $45 Million Jackpot, Second Big Winner Bought From Vero Beach Store.  A Vero Beach couple with two small boys claimed the $45 million Florida Lotto Jackpot prize yesterday in Tallahassee.  The winning ticket was for the Saturday, Nov. 4, drawing and was purchased from the same store as a recent $65 million winner.
Gail Lownsberry of Cheboygan, Michigan, recently won a $150,000 prize in the Big Game lottery.  Click over to the story for the details.
