Henry wants lottery vote this year.  Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry said Wednesday that he wants lawmakers to pass his education lottery proposal by a two-thirds majority so it can go before Oklahoma voters later this year.  Lottery Push Draws Support From Lawmakers.
Ding! Syosset Pair Rings Up $7M Lotto Win.  Ira and Stella Edelblum Thursday collected more than $7 million from the New York Lottery -- beaming as they stood before a gaggle of reporters inside the Jericho Turnpike convenience store where Ira had bought the winning ticket in October.
Committee expected to vote on who will run the Tenn. lottery.  The Tennessee legislature's lottery implementation committee is expected to vote early next month to hire a private corporation to conduct a state lottery instead of having it run by a state agency.
Man Steals $11,000 Worth of Lottery Tickets.  A New York man was arrested yesterday for stealing over $11,000 worth of lottery tickets from a Wantagh stationary store last November, Nassau police said.
House OKs world lotto measure.  Familiar arguments over expansion of gambling arose in the House on Thursday when lawmakers endorsed a bill allowing the Montana Lottery to participate in international lotteries.
N.C. lawmakers consider lottery.  A year after the House voted it down, legislators remain divided on whether North Carolina should join neighboring states by putting a lottery in place.
Lottery players look forward to 'Winfall'.  Michigan Millions, a nearly 2-year-old game, will come to an end Saturday, when the final drawing is held.  It will be replaced with Winfall, a twice-weekly game whose jackpot tops out at $5 million but pays off more frequently.
National Gambling Companies Ready to Try the Odds in Md..  National casino and gaming companies are hiring lobbyists in Annapolis and plotting strategies to persuade lawmakers to allow them to do business in Maryland if the state legalizes slot machines.

 – Big Lottery Winner Accepts $103M Check.  Andrew "Jack" Whittaker, winner of the largest lottery jackpot in history, accepted a $103 million chunk of his winnings and announced plans to start a charitable foundation.  Editor: Check out Powerball Online to see how to play Powerball online.
Lottery spree a poor bet.  Patrick Murray went on the most prodigious gambling spree in the history of the Ohio Lottery last November when he spent nearly $1.5 million over a seven-day period on the Pick 3 game, a lottery official said yesterday.
THEC gives plan for lottery funds.  A panel of legislators and educators heard a proposal for the first time yesterday from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for a lottery-funded college scholarship program that would award money based on both academic and financial criteria.  More: Lottery-scholarship proposal would favor state schools.
West Virginia governor proposes consolidation of commissions.  West Virginia Governor Bob Wise has proposed a plan that would integrate the state’s racing and charitable gaming commissions with the Lottery Commission, effectively phasing out the racing commission as a part of a new West Virginia Gaming Commission.

 – A ticket to trouble.  Three Ohio Lottery dealers have been suspended after they gave more than $500,000 in Pick 3 tickets on credit to a Wickliffe man, authorities said yesterday.  Thanks to Thomas C. for the tip
 – OK legislator to propose lottery bill.  A Lawton, Oklahoma legislator said Tuesday he will introduce a lottery bill this session that he worked on with Gov. Brad Henry a year ago.
Woman opts for lottery over coffee, wins jackpot.  A Portales woman won $145,000 in the New Mexico Lottery's Roadrunner Cash game - the game's seventh largest prize ever.
IL lottery winner wants identity to be kept secret.  Saturday night's winning Illinois Lotto ticket was sold Thursday afternoon at the Charles Street Logli store in Rockford.  The store's video department manager received a telephone call Sunday from a weekly shopper stating he had matched all six numbers, 9-21-23-25-35-46, but he requested that she not reveal his name.
Braintree rep to run Lottery.  Massachusetts State Treasurer-elect Tim Cahill has tapped one of House Speaker Thomas M. Finneran's top lieutenants, state Rep. Joseph C. Sullivan, for the plum post of state Lottery director, sources confirmed yesterday.

New MI Winfall to pay out Michigan Millions jackpot pool.  When Michigan Millions is replaced by Winfall on January 19, 2003, any jackpot prize pool money (currently $26.2 million) will be distributed as part of the new game.
S.C. Dept. of Ed. say $14 million from lottery for buses good start.  South Carolina used $14 million from its new lottery to buy 223 new diesel school buses this fall, but officials say the state's aging fleet still needs a regular replacement schedule.  More: Lottery helps gas stations more than schools.
Experts claim lottery won't make a dent in shortfall.  One of Oklahoma Governor Henry's campaign promises was a lottery to fund education.  Right now, money is desperately needed in education, where funding shortages have reached a crisis level.

 – Oklahoma lottery effort launched.  A group announced plans Friday to raise money for an education lottery, just a few days before a pro-lottery governor takes office.  More: Oklahoma picks lottery over tax hike, poll finds.
Lottery official fights to keep post.  Serious questions continue to percolate about whether Gov. John Kitzhaber or the Oregon State Lottery's interim director has the authority to fire the agency's deputy director.
$9 million Texas Lotto jackpot goes unclaimed.  Anticipation of a last-minute millionaire came to an anticlimactic end after the 180-day deadline passed Thursday at midnight without the unlucky winner stepping forward.
Lotto-style game to debut Jan. 22.  Michigan lottery officials plan to dole out about $30 million over six drawings in a new lotto-style game, and odds are all of it will go to holders of second-, third-and fourth-place winning tickets if there is no first-place winner.

 – Lottery official put on paid leave.  The Oregon Lottery’s No. 2 official was put on leave Wednesday, a week after receiving criticism for his use of outside consultants and conducting meetings at his home.
Winning $9 Million Lotto Ticket To Expire.  Someone in North Texas bought a winning lottery ticket worth $9 million and doesn't know it, according to officials.
S.C. lottery's 1st year helps 2-year students.  The South Carolina lottery, now a year old, is proving to be a boon to the state's technical-college students.
Lottery winner still numb.  One of the two winning ticketholders in Saturday night's Ohio Super Lotto Plus jackpot drawing for $15 million said she plans to spend her half of the winnings on a new house and car.

 – Bright Futures uses lottery funds to fund scholarships.  Florida's Bright Futures scholarships use lottery funds to pay 75 to 100 percent of a qualifying student's tuition and fees at a public university or community college, depending on their grade point average and college entrance exam scores.
Tenn. lottery may be "Valentine’s gift".  Tennessee State Sen. Jeff Miller believes a lottery proposal will be ready for consideration by the state Legislature by February and ticket sales could begin within a few months.
Virginia man wins $175,000 in first Mega Millions drawing of 2003.  It might have been months before Steve Dunkle of Fredericksburg, Virginia discovered he had a winning Mega Millions ticket, had it not been for the clerk who sold him the winning ticket.  With a little prodding, Mr. Dunkle discovered his ticket was worth $175,000.
