Statisticians contradict and confuse. Over the past few days, several news stories have appeared in the mainstream press hoping to paint a picture of the average lottery player. The problem is that they can't seem to get their stories straight. We think the recent hightened attention by the press at its misguided attempt to classify who plays lottery games is merely a ploy to push political and idealogical agendas. The editorial board chooses the story that fits their idealogical view, and you basically get social commentary, not news. The fact is that people from every stripe of life play lottery games, as well as participate in other gambling activities, and we don't welcome the pollsters to the game.
