Curfew lifted for Lotto millionaire.  UK National Lottery winner Michael Carroll has had his curfew lifted so he can get away from all the publicity about his £9.7m lottery win.
Lottery Opponents Still Kicking.  Now that the Tennessee lottery referendum has passed, some who were adament about keeping it out of the state are now changing their tune.
Several factors propelled lottery proposal at polls.  The strong vote in favor of a state lottery was a vote for new education funding, a pragmatic recognition of other states' money-making abilities or simply an emphatic jump at the opportunity to gamble, various experts and people involved in the debate said yesterday.

North Dakota voters approve multi-state lottery.  Lottery supporters hit the jackpot at the polls Tuesday, when North Dakotans strongly approved an amendment that allows the state to participate in a multistate lottery.
Legalized gaming wins big at polls.  Voters chose to expand, retain or establish various forms of gambling in the five states with binding measures and candidates favoring slot machines at racetracks won gubernatorial races in Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Indiana couple win Powerball jackpot of $83.5 million.  Powerball winners John and Elaine Higgins of Evansville, Ind., visited the Hoosier Lottery headquarters in Indianapolis Friday to claim the $83.5 million jackpot.  The couple of 41 years do not have any major plans for the prize money except to help their three children and six grandchildren.  More: Powerball Winners Just Want the Cash.

Andrew N.S. Glazer: Hopes increase with the odds.  Michigan recently added Sunday lottery drawings, with the expectation that the additional lotteries will bring in $30 million more a year in revenue.
Tough to win the lottery?  Not if you're a NJ Pick 6 player.  Who says it's impossible to win the Lottery?  During the span of 11 weeks this summer, the New Jersey Lottery's Pick 6 Lotto game produced seven different multi-million dollar, top-prize winners.
Pick Six probe targets computer engineer.  As the authorities investigated whether an exotic bet worth $3 million on last Saturday's Breeders' Cup horse races was rigged, the company that processed the wager said Thursday that it had fired a "rogue software engineer" who exploited a weakness in its system.

 – Lottery winner gives $1M to University of Kentucky.  A University of Kentucky employee and graduate who won a Powerball lottery jackpot presented a $1 million gift to the school Tuesday.
School secretary wins $32 million in lottery.  Martha Perdue, a school superintendent's secretary, has played the Florida Lottery since it began, partly to help support education.  Now she's nearly $13 million richer - after taxes - because of it.
Lottery stirs less attention this time.  Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman is partly gambling Tuesday's election on how much Alabamians want a lottery, although the notion so far hasn't generated the attention it did in 1998.
Fraudulent lottery winnings lead to arrest of two.  Managers of two Georgia convenience stores were arrested earlier this month; they are suspected of having taken as much as $12,000 from the stores by collecting fraudulent lottery winnings.
Random Mega Millions Pick Yields $175K Lottery Winner.  Baltimore resident Brenda Browner told officials that she was watching the morning news when the previous night's winning numbers were announced.  She knew that she had at least four of them.
Pataskala group wins $175,000 in Mega Millions drawing.  A group of 11 friends and co-workers at the Jersey Deli Market will split $175,000 they won in the Mega Millions prize drawing on Oct. 22.
Lottery Supporters, Opponents Report Campaign Finances.  Opponents have raised more than three times as much as supporters in the battle over the Nov. 5 Tennessee lottery referendum.
Spaniards gorge on festive lottery tickets.  It is called El Gordo - The Fat One - and is the world's biggest lottery, rivalling Christmas at this time of year in Spain.

Family Claims $32 Million Florida Lotto Jackpot.  The secretary to Bay County's school superintendent has parlayed her support for Florida education into a huge win.  Monday she and her husband collected the estimated $32 Million Florida Lotto jackpot from the Oct. 16 drawing.
Ignored lottery prizes fund indigent care.  Texas winners who don't claim their winnings are helping to pay for health care for the poor.
Study: Powerball estimates may be too high.  Estimates that the Powerball lottery would raise at least $13 million for North Dakota's treasury every two years may be too generous, according to an analysis of lottery figures from other Midwestern states.  More: N.D. lottery initiative not attracting campaign money.
Tenn. lottery opponents gain in poll.  Opposition to a state lottery has increased substantially in the past month, but more than half of Tennessee voters still support the proposal, according to The Tennessean's latest poll.  More: Questions, answers about lottery vote.
Someone is saying thanks a million.  The winning ticket for Saturday's $83.5 million Powerball drawing was sold at Schnucks Food & Drugs on Evansville's East Side, said Hoosier Lottery spokes-man Andrew Reed.  If received in one lump cash sum, that is still a whopping $44,026,380.  Editor: The linked article claims the $44 million cash value is after taxes, which is incorrect - it is the cash value before taxes.
Lottery officials want to pay $50 million prize, waiting on ticket.  Indiana lottery officials say they can't wait to hand over a $51.7 million check -- all they need is the winning Powerball ticket from the Sept. 14 drawing.
