 – New York Mega Millions Winner.  Lottery officials said the winning ticket from Tuesday night's drawing - worth $16 million - was sold in Middle Village, New York.
Officials start planning N.D. entry into Powerball.  In an attempt to speed North Dakota's entry into the Powerball lottery, a group of seven lawmakers will be appointed to work with Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem on legal and regulatory questions, a House leader said.
Penn. man collects Powerball jackpot.  He neither sought the publicity nor needed the money, but there he was, 74-year-old Hatfield, PA resident Edward Varley, thrust into the limelight Tuesday accepting an oversized novelty check at the Hatfield Texaco for $30,786,773.73 after he beat the odds and won in Pennsylvania's largest and first-ever Powerball lottery payout.

Arizona lottery probe.  The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating "irregularities" in how contestants were chosen to participate in a multistate televised lottery game show that the Arizona Lottery has since withdrawn from, officials say.
GTECH wins Georgia lottery contract.  GTECH Holdings Corp. has won a multiyear contract to provide equipment for the Georgia state lottery.

 – Tennessee gears up for life with lottery.  A new lottery task force has until early February to advise the General Assembly, but they'll pursue their research with at least one assumption: private business will run the Tennessee Lottery, with state government's main job to be cashing the checks.  More: Neighbor states mull Tennessee lottery.
MI Lottery sales aren't leaping.  After the first six weeks of Sunday Lottery drawings and an unusual new game, Michigan Lottery ticket sales remain nearly flat, bureau figures show.

Officer arrests four in lottery scheme.  Police on Thursday arrested four people they said nearly swindled an elderly couple out of their life savings in a con similar to the much-publicized Latin Lotto scam.
Ex-millionaire going to prison.  A 1987 Pennsylvania lottery winner was sentenced to 10 to 59 months in the county prison yesterday after pleading guilty to setting fire to his home.
Dude, You Don't Have The Winning Ticket.  A man who falsely claimed he had won a $93 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot used the same story to persuade a bail bonding company to get him out of jail, authorities said.

 – Virgin Islands joins Powerball.  Austin Andrews, V.I. Lottery executive director, said at a public hearing Wednesday morning that the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), which oversees Powerball, approved the territory's participation late Tuesday afternoon, and the tickets will go on sale today.
Tennessee Baptists to urge lawmakers to oppose lottery.  With a loud chorus of "Amens," Tennessee's largest religious denomination served notice Wednesday that it will keep fighting a proposed state lottery.
Gambling panel meets for first time.  A commission charged with studying the impact of expanding gambling in Massachusetts met for the first time yesterday, just six weeks before it is due to report its findings to the Legislature.

 – Purported Mega Millions winner arrested on separate fraud charges.  Lottery officials introduced the winners of the $93 millions Mega Millions jackpot Tuesday, after a day of confusion involving a false claim and the arrest of the purported winner on unrelated fraud charges.  More:

Task force will seek best way to use proceeds from lottery.  A week after Tennessee voters overwhelmingly approved a state lottery referendum, state Sen. Steve Cohen yesterday named 16 education leaders to a task force that will study other states' lotteries.  More: Cohen announces lottery advisory task force.
Secretary of State Questions Lottery Employee Spending.  Secretary of State Bill Bradbury is taking aim at the spending habits of the Oregon Lottery.  He says an audit shows the Lottery is spending too much on travel, parties and employee rewards.
Ohio Lottery to offer gift cards in holiday season pilot program.  The Ohio Lottery has picked the holiday season for a pilot program offering gift cards that can be used to play several lottery games.

Winner could claim Mega Millions jackpot Today.  Washington Lottery officials said they were contacted Monday by a Western Washington woman believed to have won Friday's $93 million Mega Millions jackpot.  More: $93 million winner still a mystery.
Mass. Lottery draws same number in a row.  The Massachusetts Lottery pulled off a long shot of its own by drawing the same winning numbers two nights in a row for its daily Numbers Game: 7-4-5-3.
KY Lottery hopes to make up for possible loses to Tennessee .  Facing a loss of up to 12% of its sales, the Kentucky Lottery is hoping for approval to offer new types of lottery games.

 – Grays Harbor lottery player hits $93 million Mega Millions jackpot.  Grays Harbor County, Washington has some good news to lift the clouds and economic gloom: A single player who bought a ticket in the county won the $93 million grand prize from the Mega Millions Lotto drawing.  More: Grays Harbor residents wonder who hit big jackpot.
Lottery cash to cross line.  Tennesseans waiting on Alabama money: Nestled in a valley off Interstate 65 North is the first Tennessee service station across the state line, and it's waiting for more Alabama money.
State faces losses from new lottery.  Kentucky is facing a potential $76 million loss in annual lottery ticket sales as Tennessee establishes its own lottery.
Minnesota could lose when North Dakota joins Powerball.  Minnesota businesses near the North Dakota border that sell Powerball tickets and other lottery games administered by the Minnesota State Lottery may see their business drop if North Dakota joins a multistate lottery.
Lottery does help education.  Many of us ask, "What happens to all of that lottery money?"
