 – Will Mega Millions be the ticket for Texas?.  Texas' plunge into the multistate lottery market this week with its promise of mega-jackpots and new revenues for the state is a bit of a gamble, supporters and critics agree.

$48 Million Powerball Jackpot up for Grabs.  Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's Powerball drawing, the Saturday jackpot grew to an estimated $48 million, with a cash option of $25.8 million.
Ill. couple who resuce ticket from trash claim $10.5 million prize.  Chicago resident Ezekiel "Zeek" Garnett, 27, and his sister, Karen, 24, bought an Illinois Lotto ticket Oct. 4 in Niles, Illinois but threw it out without checking the numbers.  Only the collection delay caused by a local garbage strike kept the ticket from being lost forever.
 – Powerball winners have cause for thanks.  The 16 lottery-winning Holdingford lunch ladies have lots to be thankful for during their first Thanksgiving since winning half of a $190.9 million Powerball jackpot in October.
Lottery players vent fury.  Outraged Canadian lottery players made their voices heard yesterday with complaints about the 6/49 lottery doubling its price to $2 next year.

 – Tenn. Lottery bypasses rules to hire Memphis law firm.  A Memphis law firm selected to provide legal counsel for the Tennessee Lottery was actually formed the day the selections were announced, and was chosen despite the fact that it did not meet minimum requirements outlined by the Lottery's board of directors.
$10.5 mil. ticket rescued from trash.  Illinois lottery officials said they will announce today that the winners of the Oct. 4 Illinois Lotto drawing -- a brother and sister from Chicago -- almost lost their ticket when they accidentally tossed it into the trash.
 – $24,000 stolen in lottery scheme.  Authorities are looking for a man and woman who duped a Lake Worth-area, Florida businessman into withdrawing $24,000 from his bank in a scheme involving a winning lottery ticket.

Kentucky Lottery Drops Keno Plan.  The Kentucky Lottery Corp. has shelved its plan to start fast-paced keno gambling after the game was criticized by Gov.-elect Ernie Fletcher, lottery President Arch Gleason said yesterday.
Workers get 10% bonus if lottery launches on time.  Tennessee lottery workers can earn as much as 10% of their salary in incentive bonuses — about $18,000 for the highest-paid executives — if tickets for the scratch-off games and the games played by picking numbers are on sale by their deadlines.

 – Powerball Jackpot Jumps to $40 Million.  There were no Powerball jackpot winners Saturday but 375,715 players across the nation won a total of more than $3.3 million in prizes in America's Game.
N.D. lottery supplier nearly picked.  Organizers of North Dakota's new lottery have interviewed companies that are competing to sell tickets, and a potential supplier -- and a new promotional logo for the game -- may be approved as early as next week.
 – Chairman of Oregon Lottery calls it a career at 94.  Two decades after voters retired him, and three decades after most people retire themselves, E.D. "Debbs" Potts of Grants Pass said farewell Friday to his last state position as chairman of the Oregon Lottery Commission.
Tennessee man lottery scam victim.  Not many people would send almost $2,000 to a person who called them on the phone out of the blue one day and said they were a winner in a lottery that they had never even entered, but one Tullahoma man says he did.
Lottery applicants diverse.  Lottery tickets aren't just for convenience stores anymore.  Beauty salons, coin-operated laundries, used-car lots and barbecue joints have put in applications to sell tickets for the Tennessee lottery, set to begin Feb. 10.

 – Maine legislators back video gambling, Powerball.  Efforts to expand gambling in Maine took a step forward Thursday when a legislative committee endorsed both a bill to let nonprofit groups offer video gambling and a proposal for the state to join the Powerball lottery.
Lottery ticket thief out of luck.  Whoever stole 250 "Weekly Grand" scratch-off lottery tickets from an Orange, Texas Super Food Mart won't have much luck cashing the winners in.
Va. Lottery: Gambling or Gold Mine?.  Fifteen years after the Virginia Lottery was created in September of 1988, some area residents play every day.  But even though revenues go to public education, some still oppose it.

 – Powerball Grows to $33 Million.  Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's Powerball drawing the jackpot grew to an estimated $33 million, with a cash option of $17.8 million.
 – $3M lottery win is ticket to retirement.  Robert and Karen Hanson, Denville, New Jersey residents for more than 30 years, are the latest New Jersey couple to win the Pick 6 Lotto jackpot -- and the second consecutive jackpot winner from Morris County.
 – GTECH scrutinized in bid for Tennessee lottery contracts.  GTECH Corp., the lottery giant bidding for Tennessee contracts, has been praised for quick startups and leading technology, and criticized for aggressive lobbying and a series of missteps in the 1990s that led to the criminal conviction of one employee and culminated in an overhaul of top managers three years ago.

Powerball revenue surges in Indiana.  A record number of Indiana jackpots has sent Powerball revenues skyrocketing, with the state selling nearly twice as many tickets in the past four months as it did during the same period a year ago.
Lottery fund may face changes.  Two powerful Colorado legislators said they will push for changes in the state's management of the Conservation Trust Fund, a $43 million pot of lottery profits that is supposed to pay for parks and recreation.

 – Powerball Jackpot Grows to $25 Million.  There were no Powerball jackpot winners Saturday but 303,827 players across the nation won a total of more than $3.1 million in prizes in America's Game.
Reaction to keno vote is mixed.  The Kentucky Lottery Commission authorized the creation of a new keno game Friday to shore up a cash-strapped state scholarship program despite opposition to the move by state political leaders.
 – Lottery winnings at heart of lawsuit.  Deer hunting, snack food and Powerball have propelled two Laotian immigrants into a Polk County (Iowa) court battle over how they should split the proceeds of a winning lottery ticket.
Lottery-ticket company wooing Tennessee.  Already the country's leading supplier of instant lottery tickets, Scientific Games International is now moving into online gaming — and hopes to make Tennessee its newest customer.

Lottery nixes man's bid to buy 7 million tickets.  A deep-pocketed mystery man from Chicago tried to bet an odds-skewing $7 million on the Mass Millions numbers game this week after Lottery officials opened the door by helping him buy 60,000 of the dollar tickets just last week.
 – Airman Returned From Iraq Wins Lottery.  An airman in the Pennsylvania National Guard, who served in the war in Iraq, is $100,000 richer, and he credits the number 13 for his winnings.

 – Georgia man hits the Mega Millions jackpot twice.  A Georgia man held two of three winning tickets for a $70 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot, good for a cash option prize of $26.6 million before taxes, lottery officials said.
NJ Woman Wins Cash 5 Jackpot.  A winning lottery ticket from the One Stop Shoppe on Corkery Lane landed a Monroe Township woman the claims to the Jersey Cash 5 Jackpot.
House GOP pushes for gambling.  Republican leaders of the Alaska state House are pushing ahead on video poker and a state lottery and are pointing to a new poll as evidence that Alaskans are interested in more gambling.
 – California Man Hits Big-Spin Pay-Dirt.  Ricky Rehberg, who said he has been playing scratch-off tickets for about 16 years, won $120,000 on the California Lottery's Big Spin television program that aired Saturday.
Alleged Lottery Ticket Thieves Arrested.  Two men who allegedly stole several stacks of lottery tickets Oct. 22 from a Virginia donut shop were bonded Tuesday in Winchester General District Court.

No share and share alike for fugitive lottery winner.  A Spanish judge has ordered a six million euro (seven million dollars) lottery win be withheld after the winner disappeared with the winning ticket bought by a syndicate comprising himself and 19 former friends, judicial sources said.
 – Former police chief wins millions in lottery.  After 20 years of buying lottery tickets with the same pre-selected numbers, Glenn Phenicie's casual decision on Friday to buy a Maryland Lotto ticket with computer-generated random numbers netted him a $3.4 million payoff.
 – Jackpot Winner!  There were 3 jackpot winners in the Tuesday Mega Millions drawing: 2 in Georgia and 1 in Michigan.  The winners will equally share the $70 million jackpot prize.  More details to follow after the winners come forward to claim their prizes.

Special projects shrink lottery proceeds.  Almost $1.8 billion worth of Georgia lottery proceeds that could have gone for HOPE scholarships has instead been spent on a long list of other projects, including museums, security fences and metal detectors, and renovations of historic buildings.

Lottery funds misused.  A multimillion-dollar Colorado state lottery fund that is supposed to pay for parks and recreation is being used for everything from cellphone bills to air conditioners and Christmas parades.
State to display odds of winning.  When Tennesseans start playing the lottery next year, they'll know something dreamers in many other states don't: the odds of winning.  State law doesn't require the odds to be advertised, but Tennessee lottery chief Rebecca Paul believes it's good business to do so.
Paul's pay checked.  With Tennessee's new lottery set to begin in just three months, Rebecca Paul has a lot to do and little time to do it.

Elderly man loses $8,000 to con men.  San Jose police Thursday released composite sketches of two men sought in a recent lottery scam in which an elderly man lost $8,000 cash while trying to help a man he believed held a winning ticket.
