Friday, August 27, 2004 - 7:40 am – Massachusetts woman scratches a $4 million lottery win. A Warrendale, Massachusetts woman who bought a winning scratch ticket at a Main Street convenience store this week says the $4 million prize will not completely transform her life.
- Elderly California woman loses $250,000 to foreign lottery scam. An elderly woman from Lodi, California, was scammed to the tune of a quarter of a million dollars.
- Tennessee couple wins $500,000 lottery prize. Pat Bates, 57, of Fairview, won a lottery sum of $500,000, making her the recipient of the largest Tennessee Powerball prize to date.
- California has 'lottery fever'. The California SuperLotto Plus jackpot for Saturday is currently valued at $95 million, and is the seventh largest in the state's history, according to lottery spokeswoman Norma Minas.

- Florida Lotto jackpot rolls over to $40 million. The jackpot for the Florida Lotto has rolled over to an estimated $40 million after Saturday night's drawing produced no winning tickets with all six numbers, the Florida Lottery said on Sunday.
- 10:00 am – Powerball lottery tickets go on sale in Maine. At noon on Friday, Maine became the 27th state, along with the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands, to sell Powerball tickets. The first ticket in Maine was sold at a Hannaford supermarket in Bangor, according to lottery officials.
- Tenn. lottery fans make fewer runs for the Kentucky border. Between the Tennessee games' Jan. 20 debut and the June 30 end of the 2004 fiscal year, the 16 Kentucky counties that border Tennessee saw their lottery sales drop $12 million, or 22%, from the same time a year earlier, according to the Kentucky Lottery Corp.
- Connecticut recalls 300 scratch tickets. A printing glitch on tickets for a scratch-off lottery game has prompted a recall of 300 tickets, Connecticut lottery officials said Friday.
